Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute was established in the year 2003. It is a deemed-to-be university with “Graded Autonomy” status, situated in Chennai, Tamilnadu. The institute is an ISO 21001:2018 certified institution. Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute has been provided with “The University of the year 2022” award by ASSOCHAM India. It has been recognised by UGC and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. Moreover, the institute has been accredited with “A” grade from NAAC along with other accreditations from NBA and ABET.

The institute provides admission on an entrance basis. The university conducts MGR Engineering Entrance Examination (MGREEE) for admission to UG and PG courses.
